Welcome to My Literary Journey
Hello everyone and welcome to my personal blog! I’m so excited to be launching this and can’t wait to embark on this journey with you all. My name is Jordan Meza and I’m an aspiring writer as well as an avid reader. My goal with this blog is to build a community of like-minded writers and readers to get together, share some of our favorite books, get inspired, and just have fun. For now, since it’s just me I’ll be sharing my current projects and current books I’m reading.
Diving into the World of Books
Let’s start with the books I’ve been reading. If you know me, you know that I love poetry, both reading and writing it. Well recently I was gifted a collection of classic poems from the works of several writers ranging from Emily Dickinson to Oscar Wilde and all I can say is I’m in love with these! Seeing the writing style throughout the century through the eyes of different writers is so fun and I’ve always been a huge fan of classical poetry.
Another one of my favorites, which I will be doing a book review on so stay tuned, is ‘Violets Bent Over Backwards In The Grass’ by Lana Del Rey. I may be biased in this one because I love all of Lana’s work but I truly enjoyed reading her poetry. Her verses are like a delicate, lyrical symphony of words, each line a carefully composed note in a hauntingly beautiful melody. It was no shock to me that I would fall in love with her book so much that I’ve read it multiple times through and through.
My favorite poem from the collection is Quiet Waiter – Blue Forever. Something about that poem just flowed so naturally and resonated with me. If you are a poet lover like me, then I would definitely recommend this book.
Finally, I decided to embark on the popular tragic novel, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. I’m still only about 200 pages in of the hefty 800-page book so I can’t give my full review as of yet, however, so far I can say that it has been living up to the hype. I’ve done deep dives into different people’s perspectives and the overall consensus is the same, it’s a very melancholic, tragic story with no real happy ending. For me personally, I love this style of writing but I can see why some people may not have been as keen on it. There were some opinions of the lack of depth but I will do my own personal review of the book once I fully complete it so stay tuned. As for the writing style, the author does write very beautiful prose and the descriptive imagery is vivid and evocative. The language is rich and luscious. It’s a style that not only tells a story but also enchants and transports, leaving an indelible impression that lingers long after the final page is turned.
My Ongoing Projects
Okay now moving on to my work that I’m currently embarking on. The first and obvious one is, of course, this blog. I’ve always been interested in writing a blog but never pulled the trigger until I recently decided…why not? I enjoy writing, reading, and socializing with people who enjoy the same. I’m not 100% sure where this blog will lead but I’m excited to get my thoughts out there with the world and to whoever will listen.
The second project that has slightly been put on the back burner is a chapbook for my poems. I have a solid amount of poems for this chapbook but I write poetry based on emotions and well to be honest I haven’t been feeling any overwhelming emotions. This may be for the best. I have written a few poems based on scenery and I’ll continue writing them here and there but it won’t be the forefront of my writing at the moment. I have a few of my poems published on this website so if you’re interested please go check them out!
My final project that I have been very excited about is my coming-of-age, romantic tragedy novel. I can’t give away too many details on this just yet but I am so excited to be working on this project. It initially started as a short story for me to pass the time and has now since been turned into a detailed novel, well a novel in progress. It’s still very early on so it won’t be ready for some time but I’ll continue to share updates as we go on this journey!
